Holy mungus, this might very well be the funniest movie I have seen in my life. Troy and I still quote lines from this movie. I'll be honest, Steve Carell is kind of hit or miss with me. Sometimes I think he's funny, and other times I think he's an idiot. He may have won me over in this movie. These two as a married couple really worked, and they are hilarious together. There are so many funny parts in this movie that it would take forever to talk about them all. This is one I'd definitely watch again, and would highly recommend it if you haven't seen it already. Definitely 5 out of 5 stars.

Movies & Actors at Flixster

I'm trying something new here with this movie widget thing.  I think it's kind of cool.  It seems easier than searching for a movie poster, saving it, and then uploading it to blogger.  Anyway, Zombieland.  This movie was hilarious.  Even now, I keep thinking about funny things.  The survival rules were awesome.  I didn't really expect to like it as well as I did.  I would definitely recommend this one!  4 1/2 out of 5.

When in Rome

I really didn't know what this movie was about before I went, but it has Kristen Bell in it, and I love Kristen Bell. More specifically I love Veronica Mars, but that's beside the point. Anyway, it was a lot silly, especially when they pulled Pedro into the mix to go along with Jon Heder's character (and I liked Napoleon Dynamite, so you know it's a bad gag). There were some funny parts, some frustrating parts, and it wasn't one of those melt your heart romances, BUT it was an okay show, and if you're out with the girls for your birthday it makes it even more fun, and this sentence might never end. I'll give it a 2.5 out of 5.

Leap Year

 

I'm so behind on my movie reviews!  I really need to get caught up.  And here we have our first joint review.

Dallas: I overall didn't like it. It had some cute parts that made me chuckle. I thought the end was the cutest part. It felt like it was kind of dragging, and I was just waiting for something to happen.

Brenda: I felt about the same as Dallas.  I kept wondering when it would get good.  There was some pretty scenery, but it just wasn't good enough to make up for the lack of story.  Also, there were a lot of romance movie cliches.  Like some old person telling the fake romantic couple to kiss, and then they do a stupid little peck, and the old person says, "no, a real kiss", and then they really kiss and then afterwards they look at each other like they're falling in love.  Yeah, that's been done.  It wasn't horrible, it just wasn't great.  I'd give it a 3 out of 5, or maybe 2 1/2.

Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs

Flint Lockwood, ever since being a kid wanted to be a scientist. Then one day he builds a machine that made food fall from the sky. The machine made Flint very popular. But his machine led to a disaster.

I thought this was a cute movie. It had a cute story and at some parts, it was funny. I would rate this a 4 out of 5.

All About Steve

Quirky crossword puzzle maker Mary falls for Steve on their first blind date... unfortunately he doesn't feel quite the same way about her. She takes his brush off literally and follows him across the country, refusing to take "go away" seriously.

This movie had a few funny moments, although it wasn't nearly as funny as Miss Congeniality. It mostly seemed silly, and it seemed that somebody Mary's age would be a little less naive... I enjoyed Thomas Haden Church because of fond memories of watching Wings. If you have nothing else to see, it probably won't kill you. 2.5.

17 Again

About a guy whose life didn't quite turn out how he wanted it to and wishes he could go back to high school and change it. He wakes up one day and is seventeen again and gets the chance to rewrite his life.

I was pleasantly surprised with this movie. Jason was doing homework all night, and I felt like renting a movie. I didn't think that Jason would be too sad about missing this one. I remembered someone telling me that they liked this. All I really knew was that Matthew Perry was in it, and I like him. I thought that maybe it would end up being more for teenagers, but it was quite adult. It made me laugh quite a bit. I think even Jason ended up watching a lot of it, and he even laughed a few times. It also pulls at the heart strings. I'd rate it a 4 out of 5.

The Hangover

A Las Vegas-set comedy centered around three groomsmen who lose their about-to-be-wed buddy during their drunken misadventures, then must retrace their steps in order to find him.

There were some really funny parts to this movie that had us laughing out loud, but for the most part it was just too crude for me.  And there were way too many naked butts.  Including an old, old man.  Just disgusting!  I can't really recommend this one, just because of the crudity.  2 1/2 out of 5.

Extract

Joel, the owner of an Extract plant, tries to contend with myriad personal and professional problems, such as his potentially unfaithful wife and employees who want to take advantage of him.

This was from the creator of Office Space, so I had really high expectations going in.  Extract was good, but it was definitely no Office Space.  It had the same kind of dry humor, so that was good.  There was just something missing.  I liked it for the most part, though, especially because I really like Jason Bateman.  I'd rate it a 4 out of 5.

Alvin & the Chipmunks: the Squeakquel

When Dave lands in the hospital, the chipmunks are left in the care of Dave's sister's grandson? (I think). Anyway, they go to school, learn about popularity, and meet the "Chipettes". It's okay... the chipmunk voices (especially Alvin's) really grate on my nerves, and it grosses me out a little bit to watch rodents running around, but if you're a kid, you'd probably like it just fine. I'll give it 2 out of 5.

Groundhog Day

Phil a news reporter is having the worst day of his life over and over.

I am sure many people have already seen this but I saw it for the first time recently. This movie is not my favorite but I didn't hate it. In some parts I wondered what would happen but in others I didn't really care for. The movie could have been shortened a little but over all it was okay, I would rate it a 3 out of 5.

Did You Hear About the Morgans

We went to see this one on our anniversary. I was hoping for funny, and there were a few funny parts, but it didn't quite make it. A New York couple whose marriage is on the rocks witnesses a murder and they have to be put into the witness protection program... in Wyoming. It reminded me of "For Richer or Poorer" with Kirstie Alley and Tim Allen, but that one was actually a lot better. It's probably worth renting, and if you go into it expecting a so-so movie, you'll probably be just fine. 2 1/2 stars out of 5.

Old Dogs

Hmmm... not much to say about this one. A guy finds out he fathered two kids... twins. He has to "babysit" them in the middle of a great big business deal. You can probably guess the rest. If you like REALLY silly movies, with unbelievable "funny" special effects, and over the top slapstick violence, and really weak predictable plot lines, then you might like this one. I laughed a couple of times, but I was mostly trying to be polite. I didn't want to tear my eyeballs out, though, so if you have to sit through it, you probably won't die. Maybe 1 1/2 stars out of 5.

Julie and Julia

I really loved this movie. I watched it late last night all by myself and just relished every moment. I loved the scenes in Paris, and the houses in it, and I loved watching the cooking. I loved the relationships these women had with their husbands. I enjoyed both story lines... Julia Child finding herself and learning to cook in France, and Julie finding herself and learning to cook from Julia's cookbook. Meryl Streep (who I normally don't like very much) was fabulous. Amy Adams was fabulous. The thing is, I know most people wouldn't even like this movie at all, so I can't say to go and see it. :) For me, it's 4.5 stars out of 5.

Get Smart

This was one of the funniest movies I've seen in a long time. I loved it. Troy and I were laughing so hard at some of the parts. This is probably one that I'll buy.

What I didn't like about the DVD was that all the special features were built into the movie. You couldn't watch them separately. If you buy the DVD, that might be fine, but for a rental it doesn't work. Who wants to stop at various points throughout the movie to watch special features, the first time you're seeing the movie? And then who is going to immediately watch the movie again to see the special features. It's silly!

27 Dresses

This was a typical chick flick. It wasn't bad, but definitely not spectacular. Same type of plot that you almost always see. I wasn't too fond of the ending (well, the part right before the ending). I thought it was badly scripted and weird. Oh well, it was a nice way to pass the time while Troy was gone on business.

Alvin and the Chipmunks

This movie was so cute! I didn't really plan on seeing it, but then the kids and I were going to have a movie night last night, and that's the one Kaitlyn and I thought would be best for everyone. We all laughed out loud quite a few times. It was a little silly, but it was supposed to be. I remember watching the cartoon when I was younger, and watching this movie brought back all those memories, especially of listening to the Chipmunk Christmas tape. This is a great movie for family movie night. Very cute and fun!

Fool's Gold

I did not like this movie. I thought it was pretty boring, and I had a hard time not falling asleep. It wasn't very funny, either.

What Happens in Vegas

I fully expected this to be another one of those mindless (and a bit stupid) romantic comedies. Emphasis on the mindless (and stupid), if the previews were right. And it pretty much was, but I really liked it. A whole lot. I'm not sure why, exactly. There were funny parts, there were sweet parts, and yes, there were stupid parts. Maybe I was just in a particularly good mood. I really couldn't say. I guess there are just some romantic comedies that are my cup of tea, and some that I think are the same old stuff.

This one was like a good cup of tea, or something.

Baby Mama

I thought Baby Mama was just okay. There were a few funny parts, but most of those I'd already seen in the previews. The biggest thing I noticed was how completely predictable it was. I don't know if there's any part of that movie I didn't see coming. For a bit of mindless fun, it was an okay movie, though.
